Whether you are an experienced knitter or a curious beginner, our yarns offer you the perfect opportunity to weave the spirit of Patagonia into your creations.

“Terra Patagonia”

Our “Terra Patagonia” collection is much more than colors. “Terra Patagonia” is the name Hernando de Magallanes used to refer to what we now know as Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. The place is much more than a geographical location; it's an experience lived by longing to visit it, the emotions felt with its majestic landscapes, and the memories we keep that remind us of the wind, the blue sky, the green forests, and the hues of the sea and glaciers. With “Terra Patagonia” we seek to honor this heritage and let you feel Patagonia through its colors.

To build this palette, Katty, dyer and founder of Bagual, applied her experience and scientific training. She conducted research into visual records of Patagonia, reviewing thousands of photos and hundreds of videos. From this research, she compiled unique and identifying colors of Patagonia and, even more importantly, captured their tonality and combinations. Because when we close our eyes and think of glaciers, we don't just see one shade of blue; we see and remember many hues. When we think of the forest, it's not just one shade of green; it's a palette of greens. In “Terra Patagonia” Katty distilled these combinations.

The next step was to start choosing the colors for the palette. For this, dozens of color combinations and their shades that are repeated in the landscapes of Patagonia were selected. To bring them to our Patagonian Merino skeins, Katty selected and dyed over 150 different colors. Finally, we spent several afternoons (with coffee and tea :)) choosing combinations. It wasn't easy!!! We arrived at these 23 colors to present “Terra Patagonia” to you.

(If you're wondering if we chose 23 because we're biologists and there are 23 chromosomes in the human genome and “Terra Patagonia” is like the DNA of Patagonia... well, the truth is that wasn't the reason... but subconsciously it could be :D )

Discover the Stories Behind the Colors

Each color and shade of “Terra Patagonia” is inspired by a natural element or an emblematic place in Patagonia and how we perceive it and how it combines in its environment with other colors and shades. Just a sneak peek at the inspiration behind some of our favorite shades:

  • The raw white (000), as white as the glacier and snow: Captures the pristine and untouched beauty of Patagonian glaciers, capturing the purity and serenity of icebergs reflecting sunlight. Perfect for creating delicate and sophisticated pieces that evoke the calm and timeless elegance of Patagonia's icy landscapes.
  • Katty created a deep, intense green that reminds us of Lenga forests: This deep, rich green reflects the lush Lenga forests that cover the Patagonian Andes. It evokes the tranquil strength and vitality of ancient trees, ideal for projects that convey resilience and natural beauty.
  • Water, always present in Patagonia: There are several colors that capture the hues of Patagonian waters and evoke the changing shades of the rivers, lakes, sea, and Patagonian glaciers. Use these colors to evoke the tranquility and depth of glacial waters, perfect for sophisticated projects that embody the fluid beauty of nature.
  • Calafate Berry: An intense burgundy inspired by the deep red of the calafate berry, a symbol of Patagonia's untamed nature. This color is ideal for pieces that stand out and embrace the lush and wild nature of the region.
  • Andean Shadows: Inspired by the deep tones that emerge in the shadows of the Andean mountains, there are several colors that evoke stones, mountains, and their resilience.

Phew, in “Terra Patagonia” the inspirations are multiple, but now the most important thing is for you to go to our store and explore the colors :), the collection is for you to enjoy, so go ahead and start choosing your colors for your next garment.
